I Never Had A Choice Part: 23

Friday arrived quickly. I still had a curfew of 1:00 am. Tommy arrived at 630pm. So this gave us more than a few hours together. We drove to a house on Ave A, just a block from the university.

When we arrive to the house it is very evident it is a college rental and no one living here is concerned about lawn care. There is no grass. The house is an older and two story. We enter the house and it is even more evident that college men lived here. The place was not tidy, and there was a dirty kitchen left behind for the next two weeks.

We walked towards the back of the house in the den, where there was a 36" inch tv and VCR. There were two couches, that appeared to be second hand. They probably once belonged to grandma and grandpa and made the journey to college with the boys along with the TV.

Tommy loaded the VCR with the movie. He turned off the main light of the room, leaving only the table lamp on. I had already seated my self the couch facing the TV, I was sitting on the far right side closest to the arm rest. Tommy chose to sit next to me giving me some space. But in the end he was pretty close. He grabs the remote control and starts our movie. We both had seen this movie, but it was funny and I expected we would still enjoy it.

The New Line Cinema Logo displays on the screen and you can hear Chris Tucker talking like the character Smokey. His first line is "I know you don't smoke weed, I know this, but I'm gonna get you high today, 'cause it's Friday; you ain't got no job...and you ain't got shit to do." Now this is when I decide to say something.

"I have never done an illegal drug in my life. I can barely swallow pills." Tommy continues staring at the screen and is trying hard to hold in a laugh. He looks at me and smiles.

"I know we have discussed this before. No drugs here tonight to try, so we are safe. And having problems swallowing isn't a real issue at this time." I smile at him and shy away looking back at the movie.

Then I sit there and replay this last conversation. OH DEAR GOD! I can't believe I said what I said about swallowing and I can't believe I didn't get his joke when he said it. I am so damn innocent. I know I am turning all shades of red. I am now fidgeting. I am now extremely aware of the circumstances.

I see him inching his hand from the top of his thigh and it keeps moving closer to mine. He is getting closer and I sit up on the edge of the couch because I am panicking. He sits up straight on the edge next to me and now his hand is on my thigh.

"Are you okay?' I am looking around the room and thinking how I can control this situation.

"Where is the bathroom?" Good one, run away. He points to the back of the house and tells me it's the second door on the left. I bolt. I no longer hear the movie, because he has paused it.

Once I am in the bathroom and locked inside, I am finally releasing the breath I have been holding. As I look around this bathroom it is no different than the rest of the house. I wash my hands and dry them on the one clean towel. I look in the mirror and see my reflection for the last time as the girl I have been for the last eighteen years. Goodbye Veronica.
